Here Are Some Tips and Tricks for Maternity Photo Shoot:
- Lingerie, Lingerie, Lingerie!
Maternity photos should be sexy, not provocative. A lot of maternity lingerie is available these days so there’s no reason to wear baggy sweatpants or old sorority shirts – for both comfort and appearance. Some women prefer to go all out with a variety of lace pieces while others may just want to feel the wind in their hair. You can do it up or keep it simple.
- Hair & Makeup
The same rule applies for makeup and hair whether you’re doing your own or having a professional stylist do it, try to find ways to accentuate your best features. We will recommend a hair and makeup artist, or at the very least we will give you tips on how to make your hair look great with what’s in your purse.
- Get in Shape – Pre Pregnancy Photo Shoot
The best thing you can do is to get in shape beforehand and it will make your photoshoot much more enjoyable and less stressful. Working out regularly also helps with the “glow” pregnant women are supposed to have which does wonders for their self-esteem and confidence.
Working out also helps women get into the habit of taking care of themselves and prepares them to do so after the baby is born. When you’re pregnant, it’s important not to over-exercise and take it easy just make sure are engaging in prenatal yoga or something low impact.
- Pregnancy Photography Poses
Posing is important since you’re not just demonstrating how huge your belly is, but also want to have photos that are dramatic, alluring, classy and sexy.
When you’re posing, stick your belly out as far as you can and arch your back. Try to pose in ways that are flattering for your belly don’t just do the same boring poses everyone else does. For example, instead of standing straight with your hands on your hips try bending over with one knee on the ground and your hands behind your head or behind your knee.
Don’t try to pose in ways that make you uncomfortable. Pregnant women should be comfortable in their skin and not feel like they’re sacrificing their comfort to look good. Instead, focus on trying to look confident and relaxed.
Just remember that when it comes to maternity shoots, don’t pose in ways that are too revealing or aren’t flattering for your body type. Just pose in a natural way that feels right for you. Posing can feel awkward at first, but try to relax and have fun while you’re doing it. Don’t feel like think that you need to pose in a certain way, just do whatever makes you comfortable and takes your personality into account.
- Pregnant Photography Clothing
The best colours for maternity pictures are white, black, red, blue, and green – any other colour can end up looking dirty and grey. If you want to wear a different colour then try adding a colourful scarf or belt.
Try to avoid wearing untailored clothing that will flap in the wind because it’ll make your photos look extra “blah”. It’s important to find maternity clothes that are comfortable, but also make you feel attractive. If something is too loose or too tight it’ll ruin your photos!
If you’re trying to be more “fashionable” then make sure the outfit fits well and looks elegant. Don’t go overboard with chunky jewellery or anything else that’s distracting.

Do I have control over what images you take and share?
Of course. I will not take any photographs that you do not feel comfortable with. That goes for maternity, newborn sessions. Also, If you aren’t comfortable with me sharing images on social media or my blog, I certainly would not do so.
Absolutely. I understand that this is a hectic time for you, so I want to make your session as easy and streamlined as possible. I do prefer to photograph in a room that’s extremely well lit with natural light, so just make sure that’s available. And, of course, you can always come to my home studio.
What should I wear to my maternity session?
Ultimately, what you wear depends on what you’re comfortable in. That said, I recommend clothing showcases your baby bump. Empire dresses belted under the bust and stretchy fabrics are two of my favorites. I’d avoid anything extremely loose.
When should I have my maternity photos taken?
I think some of the best maternity photos are taken between the seven and eight month mark. This is when you’re really showing, but isn’t so close to your due that you’re really uncomfortable.
Do you supply the props for the session?
Yes we supply all props, however if you have something special please feel free to bring it along.
Do you take some formal family, group & bridal party portraits?
YES of course. Although technically speaking these are not ‘Wedding Photojournalism’ I understand some are wanted & therefore happy to allocate time during the day.
How many images will we receive?
You can expect at least 55 images every hour covered. It all depends on how much is happening during the time of the wedding. Day wedding is around 10 hours so you can expect around 650 to 950 images
How far in advance should we reach out?
A perfect time to book is 6 months in advance. On the busiest popular months you might have to book 1 year in advance, always depends of my calendar.
